Teeth Whitening London FAQ’s

Some questions and answers to some frequently asked questions we receive are displayed here. If your questions or concerns are not answered on this page, please feel free to contact us for further expert advice.

How does teeth bleaching remove stains?

As the laser light activates the specialist oxidizing agent, the stained deposits are oxidized to a white color. This process makes the overall tooth colour closer to its natural unstained colour.

Is teeth whitening safe?

Yes. Extensive research and clinical studies indicate that teeth whitening is safe and will not damage enamel or existing fillings. The treatment is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

How does it work?

Our power whitening gel is applied to your teeth and a light of specific frequency will be positioned over your teeth to activate and accelerate the gel. As you watch TV, listen to music or nap, your teeth will lighten by a totally safe process of oxidation.

Will it hurt?

Sensitivity during the treatment may occur with some patients. The light source many practitioners use often causes discomfort whereas Dental Whitening Group’s light source only emits cool blue light. A small percentage of customers may experience tingling sensations immediately after the procedure, but this is this is temporary, and can usually be treated with ibuprofen or another pain reliever. It is best to avoid very hot or very cold drinks for the first 24 hours if there is any tooth sensitivity.

How white will my teeth get?

The average tooth whitening is 10 shades whiter with Dental Whitening Group’s state-of-the-art whitening system. During the free consultation, our dental practitioner will examine your teeth, discuss with you your expectations, and then suggest his recommended treatment, which is customised to you.

How long do the effects last?

If you consume no staining foods and drinks the results may be permanent or last three years. However many of us enjoy staining foods and drinks such as red wine, coffee and tobacco in which case a periodic top up treatment may be needed every six months to one year.

Is this procedure for everyone?

Virtually anyone wanting to whiten his or her teeth can benefit from our treatment including people with severe food, coffee, tobacco or tetracycline stains. It is not recommended for lactating or pregnant women, or after extensive dental work, such as veneers or crown/bridges. Factors such as these will be considered during the free consultation.

What causes tooth discolouration?

There are many causes. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea, sodas, tobacco, and red wine. During tooth formation, consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride may also cause tooth discolouration.

How is the whitening process monitored?

The procedure requires that all soft tissue in and around the mouth be protected. Our qualified and experienced dental practitioner will monitor the procedure to ensure any exposed skin or tissue is isolated and that protective eyewear is worn.

How long does the process take?

The complete procedure takes less than an hour at our teeth whitening London clinic and will depend on the type of treatment that you decide on after discussion with the dental practitioner.
